Watercolors, Rain Forests, & Students

A big part of the school I work for is our outdoor education program. Each year we take all of our 10th grade students backpacking for 5 days, typically at Mt. Rainier or in the Olympic National Park (O. N. P.). I had the pleasure of leading my first trip to the O. N. P. this year and of course my watercolors came with me. It was much colder and rainier than previous years so all of my paintings were limited to 20 min. sessions because my hands got too cold to paint much longer. That time limit did encourage me to be much more expressionistic with my paintings.

One of my favorite parts this year was getting 4 of my painting & drawing students to paint on their own trips. One the paintings below shows one of those students making a painting at our rendezvous point.
